Indian Taxpayer Voice is designed to collect as little personal information as possible. The survey is anonymous: we do not ask for your name, contact details, PAN, Aadhaar or anything else that identifies you, and we do not record your IP address with your answers. This notice explains exactly what is collected, why, where it is kept and for how long.
Who we are and how to contact us
Indian Taxpayer Voice is an independent, non-partisan initiative. For any question or request about your data, or to raise a grievance, email hello@indiantaxpayervoice.org with “privacy” in the subject line. We aim to reply within 7 working days.
What the survey collects
- Your consent, confirming you are 18 or older.
- Your answers: state or union territory, broad employment sector, the concerns you choose and, only if you choose to answer them, employment type, a broad income band, gender, age band, financial buffer, health cover and priorities. Every personal question offers “Prefer not to say”.
- An optional free-text comment. Please do not include names, phone numbers, email addresses, employer names or anything that could identify you or anyone else. Comments are never published word for word.
The survey runs in anonymous mode: it stores no IP address, no access code or invitation, and no date or time with your answers, so a response cannot be traced back to you, including by us.
What we never collect
Name, email address, phone number, postal address, PAN, Aadhaar, tax returns, exact income, bank details, employer name or medical records. If you send us any of these by email, we will not use them for the survey and will delete them.
How your answers are used
Answers are used only to publish aggregate statistics: totals and percentages by state or union territory, sector and other groups. Any group with fewer than 20 responses is not shown, and some larger groups are also hidden so that a small group cannot be worked out by subtraction. Individual responses are never published, sold or shared. The legal basis is your consent, given at the start of the survey; you can stop at any point before submitting and nothing is counted.
Security checks, cookies and logs
- Website: sets no cookies for visitors.
- Bot check before the survey: your browser solves a short puzzle; we then set a signed cookie, valid for 2 hours, that only says the check was passed. It contains nothing about you.
- Survey: uses a session cookie while you answer, so your progress is kept between pages.
- Server logs: like most websites, our servers record the IP address, time and page of each request, for security and to stop automated abuse (for example, limiting how many answers one address can submit). These logs are never combined with survey answers and are automatically overwritten once they reach a fixed size.
- Website analytics: we count page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not identify or follow visitors. The survey is never tracked by any analytics tool.
Where data is kept, and who processes it
- DigitalOcean hosts the website and survey on servers in Bengaluru, India.
- Cloudflare delivers the website securely and protects it from attacks; it processes IP addresses to do so and operates worldwide.
- Google Workspace handles email sent to hello@indiantaxpayervoice.org.
How long we keep it
- Survey responses: 2 years from the close of the survey round they belong to, then deleted, including any comments. (Responses carry no date, so they are deleted round by round.) Encrypted backups containing them expire on the schedule below.
- Encrypted backups of the survey database: 14 days on the server and up to 30 days in a separate encrypted copy.
- Server logs: overwritten automatically, as described above.
- Emails to us: deleted once your question has been dealt with, unless you ask us to keep them.
- Published statistics contain no personal data and are kept indefinitely.
Your rights
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask about, correct or erase personal data we hold about you, withdraw consent, and raise a grievance, by emailing us. Because survey responses are anonymous and contain nothing that identifies you, we cannot find or remove a particular person’s response once it is submitted. If you want your answers excluded, close the survey before submitting. For emails you have sent us, we can confirm, correct or delete them on request. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Security incidents
Access to the survey system is limited to named administrators with two-step sign-in, data is encrypted in transit, and backups are encrypted. If a breach affected personal data, we would notify those affected where we can identify them, and the Data Protection Board, as the law requires, and publish what happened on this site.
Changes to this notice
We will update this page if anything about how data is handled changes, and say what changed and when. Last updated: 24 October 2026.
